The company was established in 1990, when Subhash C. Aggarwal and Mahesh C. Gupta came together. Both of them were members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.
SMC is a diversified financial services company offering services across brokerage (across the asset classes of equities (cash and derivatives), commodities and currency), investment banking, mortgage services, wealth management, distribution of third party financial products, research, financing, depository services, insurance broking and clearing services and real estate advisory services to corporate, institutional, high net worth individuals and other retail clients.

SMC Global started out in the Indian market. As of 2015, the company had spread its presence across 50 networks branched with over 2,400+ registered sub-brokers and authorized persons spread across more than 550 cities and towns.
